Barrel Roll

Hilarious Tom Green barrel roll video. Check it out.

Today’s Astronomy Picture of the Day is that of NGC 2685, a polar ring galaxy. Apparently a polar ring galaxy is “a rare type of galaxy with stars, gas and dust orbiting in rings perpendicular to the plane of a flat galactic disk.” Interesting stuff.

The Supreme Commander of the Korean People’s Army is a whopping 66 years old today. Just think, if you start dismantling your nuclear weapons program now, by this time next year you’ll be able to celebrate your 67th birthday with all those Western luxury goods you love so much.

Bow Tie Nebula

NASA’s Astronomy Picture of the Day site is definitely worth checking out on a daily basis, in my opinion. They feature a new image everyday and today’s image is that of planetary nebula NGC 2440, or Bow Tie nebula. Apparently the white dwarf star burns at a temperature of 200,000 kelvins; talk about hot. It never ceases to amaze me that stuff like this exists.

For the second day in a row, I woke up to sweet sound of President Bush’s voice blaring out of my television. While he wasn’t as humorous as yesterday but, he was more informative. He opened by talking about how all humans are equal and deserve to live in peace (he forgot to mention his “unless of course they’re homosexual” view). Mostly, though, he talked about Afghanistan, which is nice to hear. I think people tend to forget that we have forces over there, as that theatre is usually overshadowed by the Iraqi theatre. He touted many of the successes of the Afghan War but, neglected to mention any of the failures. I guess he really doesn’t need to point out the failures, that’s why we have the media.

Key things that he brought up were:

  • Increasing funding of the war in Afghanistan by $11.8 billion over the next two years
  • Extending the tours of 3,200 US troops by four months and keeping troop levels escalated
  • Increasing the size of the Afghan army to 70,000 strong

It is also worthy to note that Britian is planning to deploy 5,000 troops to southern Afghanistan. All in all, it seems like the war against the Taliban in Afghanistan is going a lot better than the war in Iraq.

And so it begins…

Woo! My first blog post. Knowing me, one would think that I, being the self proclaimed tech savvy dork that I am, would have had a blog since their conception; however, I chose to resist the blogwagon as long as possible. (Un)fortunatly the resistance has been annihilated so, I guess I’ll see what this whole blogosphere is all about. It might do me some good to record my thoughts. If not, there’s always the delete button.
