For the second day in a row, I woke up to sweet sound of President Bush’s voice blaring out of my television. While he wasn’t as humorous as yesterday but, he was more informative. He opened by talking about how all humans are equal and deserve to live in peace (he forgot to mention his “unless of course they’re homosexual” view). Mostly, though, he talked about Afghanistan, which is nice to hear. I think people tend to forget that we have forces over there, as that theatre is usually overshadowed by the Iraqi theatre. He touted many of the successes of the Afghan War but, neglected to mention any of the failures. I guess he really doesn’t need to point out the failures, that’s why we have the media.

Key things that he brought up were:

  • Increasing funding of the war in Afghanistan by $11.8 billion over the next two years
  • Extending the tours of 3,200 US troops by four months and keeping troop levels escalated
  • Increasing the size of the Afghan army to 70,000 strong

It is also worthy to note that Britian is planning to deploy 5,000 troops to southern Afghanistan. All in all, it seems like the war against the Taliban in Afghanistan is going a lot better than the war in Iraq.
